Abstract

This study was conducted to describe the histopathological characteristic of the jejunum of the E.coli-challenged 30-day old pigs administered with the various antimicrobial drugs (with or without adsorbents). Thirty weanlings were randomly and equally divided among the five treatment groups with each treatment group containing 6 replicates. All the drugs from the various treatment groups were given orally via drinking water for 5 consecutive days. Seven days after the resolution of the clinical signs, one piglet from each treatment group, including the control were randomly chosen and sacrificed in order to obtain samples of their jejunum, and was repeated after 7 days. The result of the study showed that the various treatment groups showed differences in their effect on the morphometric characteristics of the pig intestine. Treatment 5 showed the best metrics when compared across the various treatment groups, however, it was treatment 4 which showed a positive change in its various parameters, thus it can be concluded that it is the most effective drug due to its effect on the morphometric characteristics, as well as its effect on the productivity of the pigs.
