Abstract

The study was determined the efficacy of a single dose of oral praziquantel-levamisole combination against gastrointestinal helminths and its adverse drug reactions on the 30 naturally-infected Philippine-bred household dogs (four to 24 months). Fecal samples were collected and examined using centrifugal flotation and McMaster Egg counting techniques on three separate occasions. Ancylostoma sp. to be the most prevalent GI helminth infecting 93.3% (28/30) dogs followed by Trichuris vulpis (13/30) and Toxocara canis (9/30). After administration of the dewormer, a decreasing trend in the distribution rate of positive dogs, total EPG counts and presence of proglottids was observed with an increase in the reduction rate of the parasitic ova. Statistical analysis using paired t-test (p-value < 0.05) determined a significant difference on the mean egg count for all the gastrointestinal helminths observed. Furthermore, no adverse reactions were observed for the first 72 hours post-administration
