Abstract

The major practice was conducted at the Unilab ParmaCampus (ULPC), Biñan City, Laguna from July 2014 to January of 2015. ULPC is a 44.6-ha compound and is being operated by the United Laboratories, Inc. (UL, Inc.) or Unilab. ULPC landscaped area is divided into thirteen zones. Each zone along with other areas has several landscape plants that need regular maintenance operations from turf or groundcovers to shrubs, vines and trees. Some of these practices are weeding, irrigating or watering, grass, cutting, pruning, staking and others. Incorpor5ating native plants in the landscape of Unilab in general have been their goal to have landscape that is suitable to Philippines? climate. July 2014, Typhoon Glenda hit Luzon including Region IV-A, Laguna. ULPC landscape was hugely damaged having 85% damage for non-native trees (15% was uprooted) namely: Rain Tree, Fire Tree, Mahogany, African Tulip Tree, etc. and 50% for native trees including Bagras, Banaba, Bitaog, Catmon, etc. and at most 35 of them were uprooted according to the estimation of the landscape head. And as of January 2015, ULPC landscaped area has 345 established native trees and 18% ornamental plants (turf to shrubs). Irrigation is operated by a main pump system or controller and at times, manual watering is done. Fertilization is done twice a month. Pesticide application is done monthly and every Sundays only, depending on the occurrence of pests. Furthermore, ULPC spends about three million pesos annually on the improvement and maintenance of its landscaped area.
