Abstract
Due to the rapid changes in the climatic conditions globally, the trends in the occurrence and intensity of natural hazards have also changed. With that, studies regarding the probable effects of hazards with the inclusion of the effects of climate change have been started in various countries. Flood maps were generated for Mindanao river basin, the second largest basin in the country which encompasses three regions. These maps were made using discharges on the basin taken from the processing of data on projected rainfall based on two climate models, 2020 A1B1 and 2050A1B1. A one dimensional steady flow analysis was performed using HEC-RAS and flood mapping were performed using ArcGIS. The necessary data such as cross-sections were extracted using a Digital Elevation Map (DEM) through the use HEC-GeoRAS tool. The flowrates provided by Professor Alibuyog from MMSU were generated using SWAT and was adapted in this study. It was found out in this study that the areas that are currently prone to flooding such as naturally low-lying area of Cotabato, populated areas like Pikit, Cotabato and some agricultural lands in Bukidnon, will experience flooding in all scenarios. However, the differences were minimal considering that the flowrates for the two scenarios were close to the baseline value.
