Abstract

The study was conducted from October to January 2012 in Brgy. Tinurik, Tanauan City, Batangas to determine the labor efficiency in the farm. Data on employees’ profile and their animal and non-animal related jobs involved in the operation were gathered. The identification and analysis of factors affecting swine workers’ performance, and the establishment of manpower requirement in the contract growing- finishing enterprise were determined. Routine and occasional jobs performed in contract farming were summarized to establish the activities for the whole cycle of production. All of the activities involved were timed and average values were obtained. The time per animal basis of the animal-related activities was computed to come up with the established man:animal ratio of the contract farm. Based on the results, the computed man:animal ratio in the study is 1:560. In the case of the contract growing farm studied, five workers can manage 2,800 head of animals instead of hiring seven workers. Reduction in the number of employed workers led to lesser cost in production without affecting the labor and work efficiency.
