Abstract

This study evaluated the compliance of six selected UPLB upper campus buildings to thew building and fire codes of the Philippines. To assess code compliance of selected buildings, a modified data collection checklist, adapted from Score + Store Building Data Collection Checklist for the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code, was devised. It also included reviewing architectural drawings, performing site inspections, and calculating compliance and non-compliance rates. This study also involved identifying the most violated provisions of the building and fire codes for the selected buildings in general, and determining feasible plans of action for non-compliance. Based in the assessment, Forest Biological Sciences Building ranked first in terms of non-compliance to the updated versions of both the National Building Code of the Philippines (NBCP 2004), and Fire Code of the Philippines (FCP 2008). As for the determination of NBCP's and FCP's most violated provisions, non-compliance is predominant on provisions for emergency and fire-preventive systems. It can be noted from the results that adequate fire detection, alarm and suppression systems,a nd proper emergency and evacuation planning are needed to be prioritized since most of the buildings do not comply in these aspects.
