Abstract

A feasibility study was commissioned by the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) in 1980 for the design of the Palsiguan Dam in ABra however, the methodology, data and results of the study are outdated. Since NEDA intends on implementing the Palsiguan dam in the present, 1980 study must be assessed using updated data and methods. This study aimed to assess the hydrologic and hydraulic aspects of the dam in terms of the peak flood, spillway, cofferdam, diversion tunnel and trajectory bucket. Using flood frequency analysis, several peak flow estimation techniques, level pool floud routing and optimum design criteria from several references, a more updated design of the hydraulic structures was made and compared to the previous. It was concluded from the increased values from most of the hydraulic requirements anf the flood frequency analysis results that further study must be conducted on the viability of the 1980 design of the Palsiguan dam.
