Abstract

The major practice was conducted at Villa Escudero Plantations and Resort (VEPAR) located at the border of San Pablo City, Laguna and Tiaong, Quezon from April to May 2011. During the major practice, the student actively participated in the three phases of landscaping namely the design phase, implementation phase and maintenance phase at various sites within VEPAR. Base mapping was done so as to familiarize the student on the information that will later affect the design to be created by the landscape architect and to interpret landscape plans. The student also took part on the implementation of the hardscape plan at the new VEPAR’s coffee shop that includes the transplanting of African oil palms (Elaeis guineensis) which approximately costs Php 320,330.00. Landscape maintenance operations were concentrated at the cottage area of the resort which includes watering, maintaining of plants, mowing, fertilization, weeding and pest and disease management. A cost analysis of the maintenance operations showed that the estimated monthly maintenance cost of an area of approximately 1,200 m2 is Php 19,750.00. Problems encountered during the major practice were given solutions accordingly. By the end of the major practice, the student acquired supervisory skills and valuable knowledge on the field practices on various landscape processes.
