Abstract
YMA Publishing is responsible for the distribution and editing of the manuscripts to the different schools. Due to the change of the DepEd curriculum to the K-12 program, YMA has to manage its capacity well due to the projected increase of manuscripts to be processed. However, the company is faced with the inaccurate estimates of the time standards in the editorial services leading to the occurrence of high over time hours of the associates. Hence, this study systematically developed the standard cycle time for the editing process of Basic Education Manuscripts. Different methods were used according to the availability of data and appropriateness of the technique to the situation being analyzed. Stopwatch Time Study and Work Sampling were primarily used in the establishment of time standards. However, due to unavailability of data and other constraints, other techniques were used like Statistical Analysis, Exploratory Data Analysis and Inference Technique. The gaps between the standard cycle times and the real cycle time and the actual cycle time were determined and analyzed. Different factors which contributed to the gap were also determined and classified into Controllable, Noise and Experimental factors. Different solutions to help reduce the gap were proposed. If the gaps were eliminated, within a 5-year plan, cost savings of Php 6,314,116.66 and Php 12, 946, 560.67 were realized upon elimination of the 16.86-day internal gap and the 34.57-day external, respectively. However, from a six sigma formula, the immediate realizable goal is 43.96 days which is a 49% decrease from their actual cycle time. Thisresulted to Php 4, 911, 211.20 cost savings per year.
