Abstract

DIE is a publishing company focused on the creation of well refined textbooks for all levels of education, as well as Law Education. It produces new titles and reprints, as well as revised law books. The lack of standardization in the execution of their editorial processes leading to the high variation in the processing times observed for the higher education manuscripts was the problem encountered by the company. this caused the company to have no correctly established time standards for the publishing of their higher education manuscripts. After generating and evaluating alternative solutions, the study recommends that the company establish the total standard cycle time for the tertiary and law revision manuscripts, computed to be 49.92 days and 17 days respectively, using the alternative solutions chosen under a process of evaluation. This caused the realization of internal and external gaps present between the standard and real cycle times, and the real and actual cycle respectively. Using a gap analysis, the root causes for each type of gap were identified and the internal and external gaps identified were justified by the root causes examined. If the internal and external gaps were eliminated, a total projected benefit perpetuity of Php 20,840,568.00 can be realized by DIE Publishing. The immediately realizable benefits were also computed, which amounted to an annual labor cost saving and a perpetuity of Php 1,891,738.80 and Php 12,611,592 respectively.
