Abstract

Several studies have been done regarding the factors that significantly affect the individual’s tendency to smoke but none of the studies here in the Philippines focused on the impacts of anti-smoking policies and sexual orientation on the consumption of cigarettes. This study used Logit regression in determining the factors that affect the individual’s tendency to smoke and OLS regression in determining the factors that influence the individual’s consumption of cigarettes. The results suggest that education, gender, sexual orientation, price, and counter-advertising are the significant factors that influence the individual’s tendency to smoke. On the other hand, income, education, gender and limitations on youth access are the significant factors that affect a person’s consumption of cigarettes.
