Abstract

Two types of fibers extracted from five cultivars of coconut were tested for their physical properties.

Highly significant differences in all physical properties studied were observed among cultivars. Mangipod fibers were the strongest, finest and the shortest. San Ramon had the longest, coarsest and the most elastic fibers. Commercial cultivars Laguna is intermediate between the two.

Generally, bristle fibers were significantly weaker and coarser although significantly broader and longer than the mattress fibers.
