Abstract

Eleven foreign sugarcane clones were evaluated in terms of some agronomic traits including resistance to smut (Ustilago scitaminea Sydow) at the Central Experiment Station, U. P. Los Baños, Laguna from January 1976 to January 1977. Three local varieties were included in the test to serve as control clones.

Of the test clones, the three Hawaiian varieties, H 57-775, and H 52-246 showed outstanding performance. Other remarkable entries were Agual, CB 47-15, 57 NG-45 and B 57-150.

Results of the resistance trial showed that of the 11 clones, 3 were intermediate, 7 intermediate susceptible, and 1 very highly susceptible 57 NG-45 and CB 47-15 showed intermediate average while H57-5174, H 57-775, H 52-246, and B 57-150 exhibited intermediate susceptibility to the disease.
