Abstract

A study was conducted in the Plantation Crop Section, Department of Agronomy from December 19, 1967 to June 1968 to determine the affect of Ferbam on the viability of stored cacao seeds, vigor of emerged seedlings and its protective effect on treated seeds.

Stored seeds had earlier opening of cotyledon and production of first pair of green leaves than those from unstored seeds.

Unstored seeds and those stored for 10 to 20 days generally produced statistically taller and heavier seedlings with bigger stem diameter, longer tap root and higher number of secondary roots than those stored for 30 to 40 days.

Soaking the seeds for 10 minutes in Ferbam suspension at 10 or 12.5 gm/3000 ml of water was found effective in preventing the loss of viability of cacao seeds. Further testing is suggested.
