Abstract

The agronomic characters and juice of sugarcane clone CAC 57-11 as affected by potash application were studied. Different rates of K20 fertilizer equivalent to 150, 300 and 450 kg./ha. Were applied all at the same time at planting, one month and two months after planting. The sugarcane plants were irrigated for the last time one month before harvesting.

The length of the middle internodes and the number of internodes per stalk were affected significantly by potash application.

Canes fertilized with potash two months after planting increased significantly the plant heights on the sixth and tenth months, length of the middle internodes, number of internodes, length of stalks, number of millable stalks per sub-plot and Ton Cane per hectare.

The brix was afftected by the age of cane at fertilization and by irrigation. The fluctuation of the brix readings was further influenced by the K20 fertilizer.

The polarization was significantly affected by the age of cane fertilization and was further influenced by the potash fertilizer. The fluctuation readings was affected by irrigation.

The fluctuation of the purity of the cane juice was influenced significantly by irrigation. The purity readings after irrigation were higher than those taken before irrigation.
