Abstract

The influence of nitrogenfertilizer and population density on yield and agronomic characters of UPCA VAR. 2 was studied for two separate seasons from 1969 to 1970 wet season.

Grain yield, plant height, ear height, and LAI increased with increasing nitrogen rates and population density. Grain yield was positively correlated to LAI but not to plant height and ear height. Plant population by nitrogen rate interaction on grain yield was significant. The highest grain yield was obtained at 80,000 plants per hectare fertilized with 100 kilograms N per hectare.
