Abstract

A fertilization study on caimito was conducted at the orchard of the late Dr. Valeriano Calma from June, 1966 to April, 1967, using 24-twelve-year-old caimito trees of the 'Betty' clone. Determining the effect of fertilizer on fruit yield and growth of the trees was the objectives. The results showed no significant differences among treatments on yield, size and mean weight of fruits and the growth of the trees during the first year.

A slight increase in the nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium content of the soil was observed, but only the increase of nitrogen was statistically significant. It was also observed that N-fertilized plants had repined fruits earlier than those trees receiving only phosphorus and potassium as well as the control.
