Abstract

Four garlic varieties, the Batangas Red shank, Ilocos White Shank, Manila and the Batangas White shank, were tested to determine their adaptation under Los Baños conditions.

Of all the varieties tested the tallest plants observed were the Batangas Red shank when planted during the early part of December.

The yield did not differ significantly among varieties nor between growing seasons. The Manila variety yielded better than the other 3 varieties per plot basis. However, the Ilocos White Shank gave the highest total marketable bulbs of 4803 kgm. per hectare.

Better plant vigor and heights were observed in the December planting compared to February planting.
