Abstract

Five topcrosses involving lines from Venezuela corn variety significantly cutyielded College Yellow Flint variety by 25-31 per cent. These five lines were considered high general combiners and were selected for further evaluation. On the other hand, 5 line from variety cross, College Yellow x Nueva Ecija and 3 line from Nueva Ecija gave yields numerically higher than the tester parent. These lines were also considered for further evaluation to maintain genetic diversity among the lines selected. The rest of the lines (32) were discarded.
