Abstract

Among the six strains, Los Baños Bush Sitao #1 was the earliest to mature during the day and wet seasons and the highest yielder of green pods in the dry season. During the wet season, however, its yield was second only to Los Baños Cowpea #3.

In dry seed production, Los Baños Bush Sitao #1 and New Era, the standard variety, were the two top-yielders in the dry season. For the wet season, Los Baños Cowpea #3 yielded the most, followed by Los Baños Bush Sitao #1, Los Baños cowpea #5, #4 and #6, New Era yielded the lowest.

Los Baños Bush Sitao #1 had the longest pod but the fewest seeds per pod; New Era had the shortest but the most seeds per pod, Los Baños Cowpea #3, which was fleshy, had the biggest diameter.

All the strains showed, a creeping habit during the rainy season but were bushy during the dry season.
