Abstract

The performance of the ratoon crop of three high sucrosed sugarcane varieties showed that the two College-bred canes (CAC 57-11 and CAC 57-2) were superior to POJ 3016 in tillering characteristics. POJ 3016 showed significantly bigger stalks than either CAC 57-2 or CAC 57-11.

The effect of fertilizer treatments on various agronomic characters of the varieties showed that tillering, stalk size, plant height, and sugar yields in piculs of sugar per hectare (PS/Ha) increased proportionately with increasing rates of N.

The canes tended to flower profusely in plots receiving moderate amounts of the elements; and flowering was practically suppressed at high nitrogen rates.

None of the varieties in the ratoon gave cane and sugar yield higher than what were obtained under any rate of N fertilization in the plant crop. The ratoon crop, however, gave significantly higher juice purity than the plant crop.
