Abstract

The major practice was conducted at the Amigo Agro Industrial Development Corporation in Brgy. Tumana Sta. Maria, Bulacan from April 16 to May 18, 2000. The objectives of the major practice are; to be familiar with the actual farm operations and management practices, to apply the principles and theories learned to the academe. to acquire hands-on experience in farm operations and management practices, and to observe problems and come up with possible solutions.

As of May 2000, the breeds of swine in the farm were Landrace, large White, and Peitrain Duroc. The total population of the farm was 7,946 pigs Since 1983, the mating system employed by the farm has been the artificial insemination Their boars came from Holiday hills in San Pedro, Laguna and from Excell farm in San Ildefonso Bulacan

Major activities done during the course of practice were, administering of vaccines and medications, activities related to management of newly born piglets such as removal of the mucous adhering to the piglet's hotly, cutting of the umbilical cord and needle teeth, castrating of Nile., ear notching, and tail docking

The strengths, weakness, opportunity and threat of the fame were identified Strengths of the farm are the accessibility to market, skilled workers, good housing facilities and good vaccination program. 'Their weakness as on the other hand arc poor roads, poor utilization of data, and absence of communication facilities. One opportunity which the farm should take advantage of a the expansion of market scope for swine. The danger of disease outbreak pusses a threat to the farm.
