Abstract

The effects of several non-genetic factors on the weaning weight and yearling weight to crossbred calves in South Cotabato were determined. these factors were age of dam, year of birth, season of both, sex and age of dam-sex interaction. Data from a crossbreeding program at ANSA Cattle and Crop Farm on calves from dams randomly bred artificially with frozen semen from ten exotic breeds were used. the data for weaning weight were adjusted to 210 days and those for yearling weight to 365 days.

Age of dam significantly affected weaning weight (P/_.01) and yearling weight (P/_ .01). Year of birth was a significant source of variation for weaning weight (P/_ .01) but did not significantly affect yearling weight (P /_ .01). The weight difference between male and female calves were not significant for weaning weight but male calves were significantly heavier than female calves for yearling weight (P /_ .01). Age of dam sex interactions were not significant for both weaning weight and yearling weight.
