Abstract

The major farm practice was conducted at Luz Farms, Inc. (LFI) in Brgy. Pinagsibaan, Rosario, Batangas from April 27 to May 27, 2009 sow level and operates farrow to breeder and farrow to finish enterprises. The student participated in the daily activities of the swine farm to gain skills and expertise on the conduct of management practices in the farm and apply the theoretical acquired in the university. In all sections of the farm, the student conducted the daily activities such as feeding, cleaning and bathing of animals, semen collection, semen processing, heat detection, artificial insemination, diagnosis, assisting the sow during farrowing, litter management practices (castration, tail docking, ear notching, navel cord cutting, needle teeth cutting, iron injection), detection of sick animals and medication, vaccination disinfection and record keeping among others. Also a technical analysis was done to determine the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats and gave some recommendations on the problems that were encountered.
