Abstract

Union Galvasteel was organized in 1993 and is one of the pioneers in the manufacturing of galvanized sheets for roofing applications. The company has two major facilities: Continuous Galvanizing Line and Color Coating Line. This study focused on the Color Coating Line and aimed to improve its production process by determining the root cause of unavailable rollers for replacement rollers, gather data related to the problem, present possible recommendations to address such problems and evaluate costs and benefits involved in the implementation of such recommendations. This study used net profit, effectiveness, and feasibility as the criteria for evaluation of alternatives generated. Through the use of streamline diagnostic diagram, it was seen that the main cause of unavailable rollers for replacement is the late reworking of roller. This causes downtime to the production line due to inability to meet the desired number of rollers to be reworked. This study recommends that additional machinist is needed in order to meet the desired number of rollers for rework and thus reduce the downtime of roller replacement which eventually leads to increased profitability of the company.
