Abstract

From the results obtained, the production of taller and more suckers was significantly increased over the controls by hilling the plants around the base, mulching abaca hills, or limiting the number of suckers in a hill. Hilling-up ranked first with a mean of 19.4 suckers; mulching, second, with a mean of 16.4 suckers; control, third, with a mean of 11.6 suckers; and limiting the number of suckers, last, with a mean of 6 suckers. But in the diameter and height of suckers, thinning the number of suckers in a hill gave the highest mean hilling was second; mulching, third; and control last.
