Abstract
Single spray of Ethrel hastened the onset of fruit ripening arabica coffee barries. The rate of ripening generally increased with Ethrel concentration and stage of fruit development. Ethrel concentration and stage of fruit maturity interacted positively to about early ripening. Ethrel did not have any effect on length, width and fresh and dry weight of barries. The chemical increased fruit abscission but decreased fruit abortion. Higher concentrations of Ethrel induced phytotoxic effects such as degreening of foliage and immature dropping of fruits.
