Abstract

This study analyzed and explored the communication structure of the Division of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics Laboratory (DMAML) through the use of survey procedures. Communication Network Analysis was used as a means to interpret data gathered from faculty staff respondents. The presence of individual communication roles such as bridge(s), cosmopolite(s), gatekeeper(s), isolate(s), opinion leader, liaison(s) were identified in the study. Isolates were recommended for repositioning to other committees of DMAML where they made most of their communication contacts. Sociological concepts were given mathematical formulations in this study.
