Abstract

This special problem describes an application of a project management technique in operations research, the Project Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT)/Critical Path Method (CPM) Technique. This study was undertaken to evaluate existing schedule of a selected construction project located at one of the subdivisions at College, Los Baños, Laguna, and from the evaluation, develop a PERT/CPM Model for the project.

The study develops the construction project network based on the given thirty five (35) activities and the precedence relationships. PERT's time analysis method is used to be able to evaluate the existing 72-day project duration. Evaluation based on a 79-day duration which is the result of duration upon involving activity's uncertainty gave a probability of 47. chance of project completion if 72-day duration is used. This indicates infeasibility of the project and rescheduling must be made.

Project is rescheduled using project activity time estimates for a 79-day project duration. Manpower resource leveling is also presented using the manpower requirement for the 72-day project duration. Manpower resource leveling indicates a need for 332 mandays for helpers, 241 mandays for carpenters and 70 mandays for masons. Other manpower mandays requirement is on lump sum basis as given A calendar schedule of the activities is presented for this 79-day duration of the project.

An 85-day duration schedule for the project is also presented in this paper. The 85-day duration is chosen for it has a high chance of project completion with 937 probability. A calendar schedule for the activities' earliest start, earliest completion, latest start and latest completion is presented for the project.

This 65-day project duration schedule recommended for implementation. is recommended for implementation.
