Abstract

Some factors that affect student’s failure were investigated and determined in the study. A questionnaire was constructed and administered to Math 155 students. A frequency distribution tables and percentage were used in interpreting the results.

Students found difficulty in the prerequisites subject of Math 155. Difficult examinations, incorporated with lack of mathematical maturity, were found to be the cause of failure. Large class size was observed to affect. Student’s learning. Lack of interest, laziness, lack of perseverance and cramming were the problems encountered by the students. Social activities were found to distract students learning. Lastly, lack of proper study habits and attitudes significantly affected student’s failure.

Recommendations were given based from the inferences drawn from the respondents.
