Feeding preference of the drywood termite Cryptotermes cynocephalus (Kalotermitidae) against industrial tree plantation species in the Philippines
Abstract
© 2017 The feeding preference of the drywood termite Cryptotermes cynocephalus Light (Isoptera: Kalotermitidae) was investigated against five fast growing industrial tree plantation species in the Philippines, viz., Gmelina arborea Roxb, Acacia mangium Willd Paraserianthes falcataria (L.) Nielsen, Swietenia macrophylla King, and Eucalyptus deglupta Blume. No-choice and choice feeding tests were conducted to determine mass loss, wood consumption, level of resistance, and termite survival after 12 weeks of exposure period. Results showed that the order of feeding preference of C. cynocephalus from most to least preferred was P. falcataria, A. mangium, G. arborea, S. macrophylla and E. deglupta in no-choice and choice feeding tests.
