Estimation of baseline susceptibility of several Philippine Lepidopteran pest of corn to Cry 1A. 105 and Cry2Ab2 proteins
Issue Date

Abstract
Cry 1A. 105 and Cry2Ab2 proteins derived from Bacillus thuringiensis and co-expressed in Bt corn MON 89034 were bioassayed against several populations of three lepidopterous insect pests of corn in the Philippines. Cry 1A. 105 is highly toxic to Asian corn borer (ACB) Ostrinia furnacalis followed by common cutworm Spodoptera litura and corn earworm Helicoverpa armigera. Variations in susceptibility across the target insects ranged from 13-fold to 134-fold based on range of LC 50 values for Cry 1A. 105 protein and 6.5-fold to about 150-fold for Cry2Ab2 protein.
