Abstract

This report constitute the first entomo-faunal profiling in Mt. Malinao, Albay. Collection was done using sweep net and hand picking. A total of 97 families representing 16 insect orders were documented from March 1 to 3, 2014. Some Philippine endemic species such as Risiocnemis (Igneocnemis) Serrata (Hagen in Selys 1863) (Odonata:Platycnemididae), Cyrano unicolor (Hagen 1869) (Odonata:Chlorocyphidae), Euphaea refulgens (Hagen in Selys 1853) (Odonata:Euphaeidae), Diplacina bolivari Selys 1882 (Odonata:Libellulidae), and Neurobasis luzoniensis Selys 1879 (Odonata:terygidae) were noted in the area along with species under the families Heteropterygidae (Phasmatidae), Papilionidae (Lepidoptera), Peltoperlidae (Plecoptera), Baetidae (Ephemeroptera) and Hydropsychidae (Trichoptera). These indicate that fluvial system and the forest itself is in good condition. Moreover, a possibly new species of geometrid moth from the tribe Boarmiini and a new country record of a staphylinine beetle known previously in Papua New Guinea and Australia, were documented in the area.
