Abstract
The field rat Rattus argentiventer is always a common problem in every cropping season in Barangay Sto Niño, Butuan City. The damage ranges from 5 to 15% or even higher in some cases. One of the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approaches of the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) Agusan introduced in the said community to control rats in the Trap Barrier System (TBS). This was installed in the 0.50 hectare farmers' learning field behind the Barangay Sto Niño Elementary School, Butuan City. Rats were caught in the multi-capture screen trap as they tried to enter the TBS since they were attracted to the newly transplanted rice seedlings. Total catch was 113 adult rats (54 males and 59 females) and 5 snakes, Naja samarensis, for 12 weeks duration of observations during the July to December 2013 cropping season. Snakes were attracted to the trapped rats in the TBS.
