Pollen sources of stingless bees in Bicol

Issue Date

10-2015

Abstract

Colonies from the wild and in meliponaries in the different provinces of Bicol were sampled from 2012 to 2015 to determine the pollen sources of the stingless bees. The raw pollen samples were collected and examined under the microscope. Bee bread samples were analyzed using acetolysis and melissopalynology techniques to confirm the plants as pollen sources of the bees. Photodocumentation of the different forest and mangrove plant species, agronomic crops, mangrove and weeds identified as food sources has been done. An IEC material was produced as a result of the research to serve as guide to beekeepers in choosing a meliponary for stingless bees.
