Pests of stingless bees in selected meliponaries in Bicol
Issue Date
10-2015
Abstract
Cultured stingless bee colonies in selected beekeeping areas in Bicol were documented from January 2013 to January 2015. Wild colonies from Aroro (Goa, Camarines Sur), Inlagadan (Casiguran, Sorsogon) and San Roque (Bulusan, Sorsogon) were collected and examined for the presence of pests. Arthropods inside the nests in the wild and manage colonies in meliponaries were surveyed for the incidence of pests. Mites and brown pollen beetles were observed in the meliponaries, white mites, brown pollen beetles and ants were associated with the feral colonies of stingless bees. Other pests of minor importance were documented.
