Abstract

The project aimed to tap the potentials of the women sector in increasing productivity and income by promoting good agricultural practices (GAP)in rice-based vegetable production. it was implemented in 3 barangays of Lagangilang, Abra from May 2010 to May 2011. It utilized demonstrations farms and learning fields, weekly Gulay Check classes, technology cross visits and micro financing. It involved 2 sets of women partners - the women farmer innovators (WFI) who established the technology demonstration farm (TDF) where each was required to implement all the technologies advocated by the project, and the women farmer partners (WFP) who established and maintained the farmers' learning fields (FLF) and had the option to choose and implement a combination of technologies advocated at the TDF, TDFs of different vegetables using GAP increased productivity by P13,000 - P68,000/ 1000m2 . The technologies advocated, aside from being yield-increasing and cost-saving, were also highly adoptable even with women as farmer partners. The technology promotion strategies involving women proved effective in technology promotion and in increasing income of farm households. Therefore, the strategies are recommended for implementation in other areas with similar conditions.
