Abstract
The dynamics of insect pest population found on two varieties of adlai growing on clayey soil at Pawili, Bula, Camarines Sur was studied from November 2011 to March 2012. Insects pest and natural enemies on Adlai were collected weekly from the seedling stage up to maturity, identified and sorted into pests or natural enemies. There were twenty (2) insect species identified as pests of adlai in the area. Population of brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens) was the highest. The leaf folder was considered the major insect pest having caused relatively high damage. Damage caused by the rest of the pests, both sucking and chewing, was low. Population of the insect pests varied along with the growth stage of adlai. There were thirteen (13) natural enemies associated with the insect pests of adlai. natural enemies were dominant at all stages of plant growth. Bipolaris sp infected the Tapol variety as manifested by the brown spots on leaves and stunted plants growth. The Gulian variety was found adapted to clay soil based on its growth performance.
