Entomopathogenic fungi on rice insect pests in CARAGA Region
Issue Date
10-2011
Abstract
A survey on entomopathogenic fungi was conducted in Mindanao particularly in Caraga region from July 2010 to January 2011. The specimens collected were brought and processed in the laboratory for identification and isolation. Seven genera are listed that includes the following: Batkoa and Zoophthora of the Entomophthorales and Beauveria, Hirsutella, Metarhizium, Nomuraea and Paecilomyces of the Hyphomycetes. Most of the Hyphomycetes were successfully isolated and cultured on potato Dextrose Agar except for the Entomophthorales species. These are being maintained in the laboratory for future bioassays for the control of emerging rice insect pests. The variability in the present collection indicates that there may be many more species of entomopathogenic fungi in Caraga.
