Isolation and identification of Cellulolytic bacteria and fungi from Laguna de Bay
Issue Date
6-1990
Abstract
A total of 60 mesophilic, aerobic and facultative anaerobic bacteria, and 75 fungi were isolated from different locations in Laguna de Bay. Nine bacterial isolates and 21 fungal isolates showed C1, Cx-cellulase and β-glucosidase activities.
Based on cultural, morphological and biochemical tests, the bacterial isolates with significant cellulolytic activity belong to Cellulomonas, Cytophaga and Pseudomonas, while the fungal isolates belong to Aspergillus, Penicillium and Mortierella.
Fungal isolates A2-16 (Penicillium sp.) exhibited the highest C1 and β-glucosidase activities, while B2-21 (Aspergillus sp.) exhibited the highest Cx activity. Enzyme activities of these isolates were 2-3 times higher than that of Trichoderma reesei C30.
