Abstract

Plastic bottles, carton boxes and plastic cages were the rearing units compared in the mass production of the black earwig, Chelisoches morio F. Large stock of C. morio can be produced in these units. The use of plastic cages offers the following advantages: 1) the walls are transparent for easy observation, 2) the opening is zipped allowing fast and easy opening of the cage when replenishing food, watering the substrate, or adding other provisions like coconut husks and leaves for refuge and larger feed containers, and 4) it can accommodate large (thousands) population of the predator.
