Spider mites and broad mite occurring on Jatropha curcas L. and the potential of predatory mites

Issue Date

10-2008

Abstract

Phytophagous mites, namely, two spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae Koch and broad mite Polyphagotarsonemus latus (Banks), infest Jatropha curcas L. The former causes yellowing of leaves and premature leaf fall of infested plants while the latter causes distortion and “mosaic” symptom on young leaves. Two predatory phytoseiid mites, Neoseiulus longispinosus Koch and N. calorai (Corpus-Raros and Rimando), are potential biological control agents against the two pest species.
