Hypamazso Barrion and Khan 2003: a replacement genus name for amphistylus Gahan 1890 (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae)
Issue Date
10-2003
Abstract
Hypamazso nom. nov. is proposed to replace Amphistylus Gahan, 1890 (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) (nec Haeckel, 1881), preoccupied in the Actinommidae (Spumellaria). The replacement name, masculine in gender, is a combination of letters of the names of the host plants that it attacks in Western Kenya. To this effect, Amphistylus pauli Fairmaire is transferred and Hypamazso pauli (Fairmaire), comb. nov., is proposed. H. pauli is a new record as well as a new stemborer attacking maize and sorghum in Kenya.
