Abstract
The predatory behavior of the ascid predatory mite, Proctolaelaps yinchuanensis was observed for the first time on Vanda thrips, Dichromothrips corbetti (Priesner). The larvae of the predator molted into the protonymphal stage without feeding. Protonymph, deutonymph and adult of this mite fed on the first larval instar of D. corbetti. The protonymph and deutonymph also fed on the second larval instar of the prey thrips but showed preference to the first instar larvae. The adult males and females of the predator fed on all mobile stages, but preferred the larvae over the adults of the prey thrips. The feeding behavior, growth and development, and mass rearing of P. yinchuanensis were also discussed.
