Farmers' choice of strategy in the management of melon fruit fly (Bactrocera cucurbitae)
Issue Date
10-2003
Abstract
Thirty-two ampalaya growers in five barangays of Tanauan City (Batangas) and Liliw (Laguna) were interviewed on the management strategies they use against the melon fruit fly. Bagging is widely practiced in the four barangays of Tanauan and Calamba while farmers in barangay Novaliches, Liliw depend solely on the use of insecticides. The labor and time required by the different fruit fly management methods and the type of trellise materials used determine a farmer's choice of the method he would use.
