Abstract
The life history of Aleurothrixus floccosus (Maskell) was studied on Citrus reticulata var. Ladu. The average duration of the life stages for female and male, respectively, were: egg incubation period, 8.21 ± 0.14 and 8.35 ± 0.15 days; first nymphal stadium, 4.55 ± 0.14 and 4.50 ± 0.15 days; second stadium, 4.50 ± 0.10 and 4.40 ± 0.10 days; third stadium, 4.88 ± 0.10 and 4.72 ± 0.10 days; fourth stadium, 9.70 ± 0.20 and 9.74 ± 0.23 days. Mean developmental period from egg to adult emergence was 31.80 ± 0.34 days for female and 31.72 ± 0.44 for male. Mean adult longevities for the female and male were 10.11 ± 0.59 and 5.90 ± 0.16 days, respectively. Eggs were laid within one day after emergence. Fecundity ranged from 0 to 178 eggs. Eggs had 92 to 100% hatchability. The wooly whitefly was observed throughout the year but its field population levels were highest and lowest in March and December, respectively. Relative humidity adversely affected adult population. A, floccocus was observed on a limited number of host plants, particularly on different species/ varieties of plants under the family Rutaceae. The wooly whitefly was found to occur in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, from as far as Ilocos Norte in the north to Sultan Kudarat in the south.
