Abstract
The professorial chair proposes a framework that would expand the role of the Los Baños Science Community as a catalyst in the science-and-technology propelled development of the Los Baños Science Community and its environs. Two questions guided development of the proposed framework. 1. How best could the Los Baños Community serve Los Baños and neighboring communities towards S&T-propelled development. 2. What role could communication play in the process? The proposed framework enhances the set-up of the LBSC to adapt and adopt appropriate features of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) model espoused by leaning non-government organizations which have had much experience in involving the community in development-oriented enterprises. The process will be guided by the principles of the Behavior Change Communication. Among these principles are: 1) There are different groups of stakeholders whos behaviors need to be influenced towards realizing the role envisioned for LSBC; and 2) various communication approaches - advocacy, communication, and social mobilization, are needed to influence the behaviors of the various actors of the population.
