Abstract
To determine the presence of isozyine marker for resistance to the fruit and shoot borer in eggplant, Solarium melongenct Linn., eight resistant, one moderately resistant, and two susceptible varieties were analyzed using starch gel electrophoresis. The ten enzymes studied were acid phosphatase (ACPII), malate dehydrogenase (MDH), esterase (EST), isocitric dehydrogenase (1CD), phosphoglucomutase (PGM), phosphoglucoisomerase (PG1), phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (PGD), malic enzyme (ME), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) from young actively growing leaves. The banding patterns observed in ACPH, MDH, ICD, PGM, PGI, PGD, ME, ALP, and G-6-PD failed to differentiate the moderately resistant, resistant, and susceptible varieties. An EST-2 locus was observed in moderately resistant and resistant varieties which could be a marker for resistance to shoot and fruit borer.
