Abstract
Peak of mitosis in the root tips of Annona squamosa L. occurred between 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon. The four sequential stages namely prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase were regular and normal. Varying diploid chromosome numbers at premetaphase such as 7, 10, 12, and 14 were observed. The modal chromosome number of A. squamosa was 2n=14. Relative length of the chromosome ranged from 0.056 to 0.096. Long arms of the chromosome ranged from 0.033 to 0.059, while short are ranged from 0.024 to 0.044, are ratio ranged from 1.1 to 2.2 centromeric index ranged from 31.73 to 46.18. The chromosome of A. squamosa were monocentric. The somatic chromosome were classified to be either chromosomes with median and submedian centromeres.
