Abstract
Interspecific and reciprocal intraspecific crossing, involving S. furcifera and S. Longifucifera were observed' in terms of mating behavior, mating signal -0,0 history of the F1 offspring. Normal mating behavior was exhibited by both sexes in intraspecific crosses, however, no mating occurred in interspecific trials. The mating cells of the males of the two species varied significantly in terms of tonal characteristics and duration. S. furcifera exhibited longer calls. The F1's were produced only by the intraspecific mating and their variations in the developmental period, growth indices, and longevity were insignificant. The number of nymphs that emerged varied significantly, S. furcifera produced more offsprings than S. longifurcifera. The two species were host specific. The development of each species was not completed when their hosts were interchanged. The premating isolation mechanisms were ethological isolation due to mating call difference and habitat isolation due to different host preference.
